How Democrats Could Win Elections Again

Editor's Note

The Democratic Party is effectively controlled by its destructive Left wing, as indicated by the disastrous selection of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz for the 2024 presidential ticket. But most rank-and-file Democrats are not radicals, and there is no inherent reason why the party must align itself with the group quota regime. Peachy Keenan reviews the Democrats’ refusal to learn the lessons of their latest loss, and offers advice on how the party could return to the right side of history.

First, don’t worry: the Democrat party elites, the “expert” class, the “smartest guys in the room,” will not be able to get any of their followers to take my sage advice. They may recognize bitterly that I speak truth, but they will not be able to get the wild tigers they raised back into their cages.

Some of them get it; the money men and the machers in the party figured out, probably a while ago, that they allowed their useful idiots, the true believers, to get too woke and they went flat broke. It is dawning on them, breaking like a wave on the smooth shores of their minds, that inciting race wars, opening the border, and making extreme freaks the centerfolds of their party turned off a lot of the voters they needed to win.

But now they’re faced with a real dilemma: how do they achieve their end goal of carbon-free, people-free world domination when their strongest soldiers are busy shaving their heads, sterilizing themselves, and shouting “free Palestine, “dismantle the patriarchy,” and “protect trans kids”?

Late last month, Nate Cohn delivered the kill shot in the New York Times: “It has long been clear that the rise of Donald J. Trump meant the end of the Republican Party as we once knew it. It has belatedly become clear that his rise may have meant the end of the Democratic Party as we knew it as well.”

Immediately after the election, Jon Favreau, former Obama flunky and one of the hosts of the left-wing podcast Pod Save America, attempted to think through this difficult conundrum. His solution? The Left “needs better messengers” and a new “media infrastructure” to take on the Right’s dominance of media during the election.

Yes, Jon — if only the Left had a robust media infrastructure. Shame that you must make do with: your own government-funded national public radio network, 100% of network television, all of cable news (except for one channel), Netflix, HBO, Disney, ESPN, and AppleTV. All the newspapers. Every op-ed page. (George Soros owns 500 local newspapers in the United States!) Every major advertising agency. All of Hollywood, every movie studio, every talent agency, and every big publishing company. All the glossy magazines you find at newsstands in every airport: Time, Newsweek, The New Yorker. Facebook, Instagram, Google, and YouTube. Fashion, culture, art, design, comedy. The Left owns all of it, runs all of it, and controls all the messaging.

Another solution to their problem is to try to find their own “billionaires” to fund new media ecosystems that can compete with independent podcasts and the influence of Elon Musk. “We need our own left-wing billionaires!” they shriek, seemingly ignorant of every billionaire and super-wealthy celebrity that dumped a combined $2.5 billion into the disastrous Harris campaign. Bill Gates, Mark Cuban, the hideously grotesque Pritzker family, Michael Bloomberg, LinkedIn founder and Epstein Island enjoyer Reid Hoffman, Facebook co-founder Dustin Moskovitz, Rahm Emmanuel, CEO of Disney Bob Iger — the list goes on.

But don’t worry: Favreau and his fellow smarty-pants male feminists, men who call their wives their “partners,” will not be able to right their sinking ship anytime soon. They simply do not have the stuff that makes MAGA so appealing to so many young men. They have chained themselves to a large mass of voters who are pure electoral poison. The party spent decades grooming these people from birth to be their willing thrall, brainwashed and compliant voters who will gladly form mobs and fix bayonets to attack anything they choose. Antifa, BLM, the Women’s March, the Free Palestine kids, the Stop Oil climate loonies, the obese cat ladies in Handmaid costumes, the trans kids groomers, the rainbow orcs, the Slava Ukraine chickenhawks, the “abortion is health care” murderers: they would have to deprogram all the groups they spent decades raising up.

The elites also believe, to their core, to the bottomless abyss of their souls, that Trump is bad and evil, and his voters are at best stupid, and at worst evil too. This will not ever change. So how can they ever appeal to his voters without recoiling in disgust?

The Democrats’ old way was to enslave blue-collar Union Joes as mules for their left-wing dreams; as clueless rubes they could use as electoral cover as they quietly smuggled in the real prize: the offshoring of factories and globalizing trade, the Marxist “dismantle the patriarchy and capitalism” garbage.

But over the last couple decades, the Democrats replaced working-class whites with a new, more colorful base: young, college-educated (mostly) women who filter all political thought through their ovaries.

The elites and the “experts” now understand that drag queens, trans kids, late-term abortion, and pronoun police aren’t popular. They are slowly realizing that calling everyone you don’t like a racist bigot who hates Jews, gays, and brown people is not the way to win. They still believe this, but they are going to be a lot quieter about it. They are going to try to find “better messengers” to sell their wild ideas — but the attempt at putting a “good old boy” face on radical leftism is what got them Tim Walz.

Good news for us: they will not be able to muzzle their most fanatical cadres any time soon. The progressive mob with their pronouns and their after-market genders are not going anywhere.

Here is how I know. I scrolled through some of the thousands of comments Times readers left on Cohn’s November 25 article. The results confirm my prediction that they will not change course, for a very simple reason: they can’t.  It would be like teaching a snake to tap dance.

Some Times readers think Trump won the election by cheating or suppressing blue-state votes: “I’d like to see some comprehensive reporting about Republican state barriers to voting, including wait times in urban districts, and the number of Democratic voters in those districts.”

Some think they lost because of disinformation: “Trump, with MAGA and its Republican enablers in Congress, Wall Street and conservative media outlets trotting at his heels, has told non-stop lies, falsehoods and conspiracy theories, I am convinced that the overriding reason the Democrats lost is that the voters are ill-informed by a flood of disinformation.”

“Trump won because he lied constantly to demonize the other side and he had his own propaganda channel promoting him 100% and lying along with him.”

Some think they lost because of racism and misogyny: “The economy is a cover for racism and misogyny, and being in denial about it isn’t going to help the Dems or anyone else.”

Some think Russia did it: “This was a razor thin election. Dems haven’t lost their base. Trump had a propaganda machine Russia and Musk.”

And some think they lost because Trump voters are idiots: “The populist Trump message only works when people are dumb enough to believe it. But doing the research beyond a clip on the phone is a lot to ask Americans. They’d have to put down the beer or soda, stop buying stuff, get the junk food out of their mouths, and turn off social media.”

And then, a lone voice of reason: “Oh my, so many commenters are taking the Kamala Harris line: there is nothing we would change, we take responsibility for nothing, everything was Trump’s fault, the voters are stupid or deceived. Until the democrats admit their failures in economic policy, law and order, foreign policy, and social policy they’ll just be on the street corner yelling at all of us to repent.”

Now, the Democrats are at a crossroads: Should they hope that “Trump 2.0: This Time It’s Personal” ushers in economic and social chaos, and that this chaos will propel them back into power?  Or…should they try to (trigger warning) improve the lives of Americans?

The Trump victory formula is very simple. All you need to do is: start arresting criminals and keep them in prison, seal the border, deport illegals, restart domestic energy production, eliminate regulations, cut waste, end forever wars, and bring down inflation.

In other words, if they ever want to win again, the Democrats will have to become MAGA. Good luck with that one!
